Cockpit Head-Up Display Video Recording System (CHVRS)

Photo-Sonics are pleased to announce a Cockpit HUD Video Recording System (CHVRS).  CHVRS consists of a HUD video camera and a video/data recorder and is used as a mission debrief tool to playback video captured by the camera and data from HUD.  The purpose of this system is to correlate the aircraft data from the HUD and the pilot's view from aircraft, this is achieved by positioning the camera such that both essential aircraft data displayed on the HUD and the outside world are recorded simultaneously.

The Photo-Sonics Remote Head HUD Camera consists of a sealed optical periscope and is positioned behind the HUD combining glass, thus recording the view of the HUD and outside world as seen by the pilot.  A cable connects the periscope to the camera electronic unit which houses the aircraft power input and outputs a video signal to the recorder.

The Heim Modular Data Recorder is ideally suited to HUD video recording requirements.  The MDR is a cockpit-mounting unit, which records to solid state compact flash (CF cards).   The chassis can record up to 4 video channels, or two video streams and other avionics data such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC429, analogues, discretes etc.   So you can record not only the HUD video but also the HUD data inputs.


The recorder has a GPS receiver and IRIG time code inputs and outputs that allow you to accurately time stamp all data and overlay the time on the video image if desired.  Recordings are made in IRIG 106 Chapter 10 format and the video files are easily transferred to MPEG files for replay and analysis on PCs.

The MDR is with NVG compatible display making it ideal for cockpit installation.

The Photo-Sonics CHVRS is a cost effective upgrade of legacy HUD video recording systems and offers a solution to obsolete systems or systems with high costs for in-service support.  It can be configured such that aircraft modifications are not required.  It is also suited to installation on aircraft without existing provision for HUD video recording.
